LE GRIFFON

Le Griffon (Griffin) Suite is a spacious studio (35 sq m) housed in what was once the kitchen of the judges residence dating from 1640. There remains ‘le cantou’, the huge cooking fireplace (due to fire regulations, blocked and not in use) plus a niche with a stone sink – called an ‘evier’ in local parlance. It is equipped with a 160 cm queen bed and a beautiful round table for meals. Beamed ceilings, parquet flooring, and handsome antique furniture belie the modern comforts – a fully functional kitchenette with fridge, hot plate, sink, and microwave, plus a roomy bathroom with sink, toilet and shower.

– The griffin is a legendary creature with the body, tail, and back legs of a lion; the head and wings of an eagle; and an eagle’s talons as its front feet. Because lions are traditionally considered the king of beasts and the eagle the king of birds, the griffin was an especially powerful and majestic creature, known for guarding treasure and priceless possessions.

“Excellent. It was such a joy staying in a truly gorgeous apartment in the heart of Sarlat. It is the best of both options as it is easy to eat out at numerous restaurants and also simple to have breakfasts and lunch in the apartment if you want as the kitchen facilities are great. It felt very special to stay somewhere with historical value to the town. The owners’ renovations have retained the authenticity and they have dressed the rooms with antique furniture in keeping with the period. Thank you for your friendly welcome and hosting during our stay.”

“What a fantastic find! I look forward to returning to Sarlat and staying at Appartements Les Suites
No breakfast option BUT even better! The owners gave me lots of goodies to enjoy while I was there! Sitting on my kitchen table was a bottle of red wine, a baguette, a bowl of fresh strawberries, etc. and in the refrigerator was water, orange juice, etc..
I adored every single moment of my stay at Appartements Les Suites Sarladaises!”

“What a neat place to stay in the medieval city of Sarlat. Facing into a narrow alleyway, you seriously wouldn’t be surprised to look out the window and see a knight riding by, or maybe some ladies-in-waiting, out for an evening stroll. You couldn’t ask for better hosts than Daniel and Francesco. They do ask that you call ahead and let them know when you’re arriving so they can meet you at the door. DO AS THEY REQUEST. You are going to have to roll your suitcase down from the road above, and although GPS is a big help in finding the place, ours kept getting lost. Didn’t take long to find Le Griffon, but it was very reassuring when we tapped at the door and Daniel was right there to welcome us. Couldn’t ask for a better location. Out the door, and down the street 20 yards, and bam, you are by the cathedral and in the heart of the shopping district. The room has the same old-world charm as the whole area. We were on the first floor, so no problem getting to the room. But, check out the stairs farther on up. Amazing, as they are worn down from centuries of use . . . not a flat square inch on them. Anyway . . . really felt welcomed by Daniel — from Connecticut so no language barriers — who had a nice baguette, bottle of wine, and bowl of strawberries for us. Room was all you could ask for with, modern bathroom and shower, and comfortable bed. Needed help with buying tickets to Lascaux and a couple other issues and Daniel was right there, ready to help.”

 “Above and beyond our expectations.
Old stone building with thick walls and narrow streets(actually walkways) thus AC not necessary. Beautifully renovated and decorated to the period by owners Dan and Francesco. Our large kitchenette room had the original Huge cooking fireplace and stone sink. Bathroom was large and had all the amenities.”

“Очень красивые апартаменты. Очень чисто. Есть все удобства. Хозяин очень дружелюбный и хорошо говорит по английски. При заселении оставили корзину с фруктами, выпечкой и разными вкусняшками, включая бутылки вина. В следующий раз выберем снова эти апартаменты.”

“Beautiful property, comfortable bed and tasty provisions provided!
The property was beautiful with a comfortable bed and large fluffy towels. Our hosts provided us with some provisions which was a nice surprise – a wonderful baguette, a great bottle of wine, cheese, orange juice, and fruit. The location is right in town – easy walking to restaurants.”

” Right in the middle of Sarlat. An historic building with terrific hosts.
The room was large and comfortable and very interesting because it was formerly the kitchen in an old building. The building was close to local restaurants.”

“A true gem in the Dordogne! This is a fantastic place to use as a base to explore the Dordogne. The apartment is beautifully appointed with genuine antiques, it’s like staying in a chateau while being downtown. All the top places to see in the area are within a short drive. The building is located within the pedestrian zone of Sarlat, putting you right in the middle of things in this incredibly beautiful town. Paid parking for unloading is about 300ft/100m away. Free parking is 8 mins walk from the house.”

Theodore, San Diego (USA)

“Everything. The city, the area, the apartment is perfect. Lovely. Well equipped. Very chic.”

David (Israel)

“Truly wonderful spot in the heart of medieval Sarlat. Beautifully appointed ‘mini’ apartment. Daniel and Francesco went out of their way to make our stay wonderful, including making dinner reservations for us and stocking the apartment with fresh bread and berries from the local market, along with a bottle of wine. Would stay here again in a heartbeat!!”

Marlene & Chris, Maryland (USA)

“Daniel’s place really could not be better. It is the antidote for a world where so many things are done poorly. Come stay here and breath in the air of everything being both aesthetically and functionally well done. Bath in the integrity, love, dedication, good taste and intelligence that went into the making of these enchanting suites. The recent renovation of this nearly 500 year old building (parts of it are more than 800 years old) in this beautiful historic town was done the the soul of an artist.”

“Very nice place. I’ll recommand this place to everybody. It’ll make your stay at Sarlat more special.”
